 Hants & Dorset / Wilts & Dorset Integration

  A complete renumbering scheme involving the Hants & Dorset and Wilts & Dorset fleets was introduced during September 1971.

Basically blocks of numbers were allocated to types of vehicle and these blocks were the same for both fleets, except that those for Hants & Dorset were 1000 higher than those for Wilts & Dorset.

At the time of the renumbering , Nos. 327/43/59/74, 540/53/4/9/66 (Wilts & Dorset), 664-6/72/5/6/8/81, 789-96, 854-6, 929, 1137, 1248/55/7/9/62/7-9/73/7/9/83/4/8, 1302/20/3/6 (Hants & Dorset) were owned but were awaiting disposal; these were not allocated new fleet numbers.

    It should be noted that vehicles Nos. 21/2/63, 1060/2/95/6, 1901-6 were delivered with numbers within the new scheme and therefore retained them. The combined undertakings were divided into three areas and they were as follows:-

Separated completely from other single deckers. This block is split further by confining 10- metre vehicles between 1 - 50 and 11 metre vehicles between 51-99. Shamrock & Rambler vehicles allocated the last ten numbers of each block in the Hants & Dorset range.
  Bristol FS, 101-199 : 1101-1199
Numbered in age sequence.
  Bristol FL, FLF, LDL 201-299 : 1201-1299
Numbered in age sequence. The LDL vehicle has been placed in this group for the benefit of the traffic department, but is separated from the other vehicles by being numbered 1299.
  Bristol KS, KSW 301-399 : 1301-1399
Numbered at the back of the block but still in age sequence. Allows for any new type of double deck to start from 301 / 1301.
  Bristol LD, 401-499 : 1401-1499
Numbered in age sequence. The LDL vehicle transferred to the 1200 block.
  Bedford & Bristol LH, 501-599 : 1501-1599
These two types of vehicles are are numbered in the same block as they are of similar type from a traffic point of view, 1-20 are reserved for the bedfords, with the LH`s numbered from 21 onwards.
  Bristol RE, 601-699 : 1601-1699
1601 and 1602 reserved for the two ECW bodied coaches on conversion to stage work, to retain age sequence.
  Bristol LL, LS, 701-799 : 1701-1799
All LS`S, regardless of type, in the fleet numbered in age sequence, numbered at the back of the block to allow for any new type of single deck to start from 701 / 1701.  The LL`s are numbered in this block for convenience.
  Bristol MW, 801-899 : 1801-1899
All MW`s regardless of type, in the fleet numbered in this block in age sequence. The vehicles which at present are coaches will take their numbers in this block only after they have been converted for stage use.
  Others, 901-999 : 1901-1999
This block is for vehicles which do not fit into any of the other categories. It contains the ex Silver Star Leylands, in the Wilts & Dorset fleet, and the Daimler Fleetlines diverted from Gosport & Fareham.

    It should be noted that Wilts & Dorset 369 and Hants & Dorset 699, 807/50, 1274/5/80/2/94, 1303/7/8 ( Old series numbers) were withdrawn probably without being renumbered
